Updates from Mr. Roemer

Hello. I am so impressed with our Band's performance at the Wilmington Band Contest. We worked very hard on improving our music - balance, blend, awareness of your place in the ensemble, dynamics, timing, precision, etc, etc. And it paid off. One of the best parts of my job is when students learn that hard work and dedication are truly the secrets to life's challenges. As much as getting a superior rating at our very first contest would have been nice, it would not have taught the students the value of perseverance. So we can all sleep a little easier now, but trust me, we are not done with our show. Plenty of work ahead. See you at State! We scored a total of 82.160 points. This was up from Tipp City at 78.480. We earned superior ratings from both music judges, visual judge, color guard judge, and percussion judge. We earned excellent ratings from both general effect judges. - only one point away from each to get superior rating from them. We earned First place in class A. Which is very cool since we have one three first place trophies in a row now. We earned Best Color Guard. Two weeks in a row now. They are doing fabulous and the judges like their contributions to our theme. We earned Best Percussion. We have an extremely hard working percussion section. This was a great show for them. But if I know them, they are going to work even harder. We earned an overall Superior rating. This qualified us for Ohio State Marching Band Finals. This is Ross Band's 37th consecutive appearance at State. 1985 was our first appearance. State finals is held around the state over the course of two weekends. There are no first place, best guard, etc trophies. It is for ratings only. We will do our best to achieve the top rating of Superior. The contest date is assigned to us. Most likely, but not confirmed yet - this will be November 6. Not sure of the time. The venue will most likely be Piqua High School. It will NOT be Dayton Welcome stadium as in the past. That stadium is being renovated. This week is a busy one - but no band commitments on Saturday! Friday activities. - End of the 9 weeks. Check grades, some students have not turned in playing tests.! Pep rally during school. Homecoming parade -meet at school at 3:30 pm - many kids just stay after school. Parade steps off at 5 pm. New start location but same route basically. We assemble near Marathon gas station on Wade Mill road. We will take school buses there. We end our portion of the parade at Elda as usual. The rest of the parade continues on to Wade Mill road. I am interested to see how this new plan works. Hopefully even better that before! Booster sponsored Food trucks. These will be in the circle in front of RMS. Please eat here! Friday Football game- we will perform at halftime for the homecoming court activities. We typically don't play our show due to time restraints. Next week on Saturday we play at Turpin High School at 7:15 pm. I will send out schedule details next week. Next week also we have an indoor concert on Wednesday at 7pm. Oct. 19. Remember to join our zoom meeting THIS THURSDAY. Just being on the zoom meeting earns us money. https://scanmail.trustwave.com/?c=12185&d=-8q840TmbQcA9wD-nbJDeMP-0EsX7EKQxG2-JQZzMQ&s=10&u=https%3a%2f%2fus02web%2ezoom%2eus%2fj%2f87603684734 Have a great Homecoming week. The band is extremely busy. Thank you, Richard Roemer Ross High School Administration

Band Updates from Mr. Roemer

The Ross Band increased their scores last week at the Hamilton Band contest and we brought home First Place! We earned two of the three required Superior ratings needed to qualify for State Finals. The band earned a total of 79.460 points. We needed a total of 80 points to qualify. Our score from Norwood was 74.5. In addition, our percussion section earned the third highest score in the entire show. They outscored several AA bands! We are right where we need to be. Still room to grow and improve - remember we are just now half way into our fall season. The students must keep a good attitude and a growth mindset to take this show to its ultimate completion. The judges love our show so we know we are on the right track. As always, the number one thing a student can do to help our show- PRACTICE individually at home. Color guard, percussion, winds. This week - we will have an added rehearsal on Friday from 4 - 6 pm. Sorry to add to our schedule, but when I put together our calendar I was not aware we would not be going to away football games. Since we are not playing at all Friday - we need to rehearse to stay sharp for Saturday. If there are circumstances that cause issue, please reach out to me. Saturday - we travel to Tipp City. The contest is not at Tippecanoe high school. Type into your GPS "Tipp City Family Aquatic Center" and it will take you right to the park where the stadium is. (No we are not playing in a swimming pool!, but that sounds interesting) The whole show starts at 6 pm and awards are at 8:45 pm. Ross performs at 7:30 pm. Under the lights! This is a smaller stadium, but I do like the contest. We have been going here for many years. Thanks to all the fans that have been coming to our shows and cheering on our band. We love to hear you out there! And thanks to all the kind emails and texts I received in support of our program. This weekend will be the furthest regional show we go to this year due to busing constraints. You might want to ask your student to alert you via text when we leave Tipp City so you can plan for pickup. I estimate around 11:30 pm. I have attached our complete schedule for the day.
